Lots of misc. stuff leading up to Connor's first real crawls!: April 7-16

Weather here was still in a bit of a state of flux. It wasn't cold enough to merit wearing his big winter coat anymore, but it wasn't warm enough for short sleeves. Also, not because we're cheap but because we are wisely frugal, we didn't want to buy him a new light jacket for the few days he might need it before we were hit with summertime weather.  So on April 7th, even though it was only a little cold Connor donned his big winter coat once again.

The following day was a warm, sunny 74 degree F day and we decided to take Connor to a grassy hill on campus to play. We dressed him appropriately with pants and a short sleeved shirt (he also had a hat which he promptly threw on the ground...)

Christian reads Connor a book. Connor really likes to read, but he likes to eat the books just a little bit more...

Notably, on April 7th, Connor discovered grass and to his delight he discovered that he can pick grass. He wasn't so thrilled with the fact that we wouldn't let him EAT the grass.

Connor meets a friend. April 8

That day, Connor met a new friend. This young girl is one month older than Connor, so 8 months old in this photo. She and Connor got along very well until Connor grabbed two fistfuls of her hair and pulled!

This photo also shows the difference between the way we dress Connor and the way Chinese babies are dressed. They layer and layer and layer clothing. This baby actually had on another layer that her grandmother removed after seeing how little Connor was wearing - and there is another layer of clothing under this babies shirt. This is just cultural difference. But seeing another baby you may understand why a common comment we receive about Connor is that he isn't wearing enough clothing!

Here is a quick bit of history about Wuhu.. In 1937, Wuhu was occupied by the Japanese (at the beginning of the Sino-Japanese War).  Of course, the Japanese were defeated, but not before the Nanjing Massacre...

In the photo to the left, Christian poses with one of the few (if not the last?) remaining Japanese bunkers in Wuhu... conveniently located on our campus.

Here you can see that Connor now prefers to play off the mat...

Presenting a 4 panel Connor Comic! (Photos from April 9th) (Check out how nicely Connor is sitting up. Way to go Connor!)

Huh?
Oh, that's funny!

Hahaha! What's so funny?

Actually, I don't get it!

No explanation.

Connor is a pretty hilarious little guy. We don't know where he gets it from...

had never noticed before. April 9.

Connor's crocheted jacket is a bit too small but we're using it once again to save a little cash on buying new cold weather clothes that won't get use

One of Connor's new favorite things to do outside is touch bushes and pull off their leaves. If he sees a bush and you aren't going toward it, he'll scream and, or lean himself toward it. (April 9)

Here's a little fun at home with Dad. 'Cuse the hair, this was pretty early in the morning.

Looks like Connor's Mom and Dad were raised in the 80's! April 11

We bought Connor a small piano that he fell in love with at a toy shop near the lake. It's a really fun toy for him though strangely it is in a minor key. Connor responds really well to music so it's fun to play with these types of toys with him... though the French teacher did comment that he was glad he lived on the opposite side of the building since we bought this.

One day we went out and by chance there was a shopping fair on Walking Street. There were a few booths set up for babies where we got two free diapers (score!) and where we bought Connor a Kidsme Food Feeder. With our new feeder we decided to let Connor have his first taste of oranges.   April l3

He really seemed to like them!
While he mostly nurses, Connor is becoming more interested in feeding himself what he can. Here's him with his water cup, which he can use even though he's not really drinking in this photo. The mouth piece of this sippy cup is very soothing for him to chomp on for teething.

Connor doesn't like all food but he likes to taste new things and he's willing to try foods again.

Someone gave Connor a rose. About 1 minute after he got it it was a pile of petals and in the trash. But, we got this photo of him looking hopelessly in love.

Somewhere along the way Connor fell in love with plastic bottles. Everytime he gets a plastic bottle it becomes his new favorite toy. If he drops it, or if we take it away he cries and screams. If he sees one he'll whine, lean and squirm towards it until he gets it, or he'll scream and cry if he doesn't get it. He even lunges towards stranger's bottles!
It's mine all mine!!   April 15
In the photo above you see Connor in a position that he'd become very comfortable with. He loves to lay on his tummy and actively reach out for and scoot towards the toys he wants. He has really become a pro scooter.

Our first photographic evidence of Connor crawling.
April 16
On April 15th he graduated to full on crawling. He seemed a little shy about it at first, only really crawling when we weren't directly looking.  But on April 16th he was ready to show off his skills and we got a couple of photos.

Connor has completed another link in his quest chain for mobility! (He earned 23xp and 16cp)

  1. Love how these updates are coming out faster and faster! Another excellent episode. It's great that Connor is already "devouring" books at 7 months. I want you to know that the plastic bottle is also Toolan's favorite "toy"...something about the sound it makes when handled and chewed. Of course, I am not really comparing Connor with a dog, but with Toolan, the Einstein of dogs. Just saying. Thanks again for the fun update! Hope you had a good Father's Day, Christian...your first, in case I need to remind you.

    1. Hehe, thanks! I'm trying to get them "caught up" to ... you know... the month we're actually living in! :)
